We've moved

If you uses this tsingtao-nights.blogspot.com address make the switch to www.tsingtao-nights.com. It's the new and improved Tsingtao Nights. With the new sites I have more leeway in creating pages, changing the look-and-feel of the site, among other things. So check it out. The USS Alaska Project is back with force. Tsingtao-Nights.com

Server Move

SECOND UPDATE: The process of moving a domain from one server to the next is apparently a slow one. The transfer should be complete any day now. Then: a new feel, a new look, a new Tsingtao Nights. Keep checking back.

UPDATE: Hit a snag, so by "this weekend" read "next weekend." All the best, --Mike

We've outgrown Blogger, so ... Tsingtao Nights is moving! If we're down or look funny this weekend, that's why. The web address http://www.tsingtao-nights.com won't change, your bookmarks should be cool, but we might be down a bit. Don't fear. Stay tuned. Expect big things.

Happy Holidays

Well wishes to the entire Alaska gang this holiday season!

Alaska buff Ian "Colosseum" Roberts sent me a link this morning to his fine drawing of "The Mighty A." Click the image above for the full-size version.

"I recently found your nice blog about the CB-1 Alaska class cruisers and I must say that it's a wealth of information I had not seen before. :)," he wrote. "As you probably know, information about the Alaskas is relatively scarce across the internet, so finding something new is always fun! I am a big fan of the Alaska ships, so much that I've spent the past six months working on a computer graphics drawing of the ship as it would have appeared in 1945 for an online database of ship drawings."

News & Notes

A 2009 Alaska reunion is in the works. Destination: Alexandria Bay, New York, just outside of Syracuse. Big thanks to Peter Fiorini for doing the leg work! I know two people who will definitely be there. Information is forthcoming in the Christmas North Star.

Rich Synek has started a nonprofit, Feed Our Veterans, to raise money for down-and-out vets in Vernon Center, New York. You probably remember Rich from the March 08 issue of the North Star. He sent in his grandfather, Francis Alexander Zielinski’s, war diary. Let’s give Rich all the support we can.

Alaska buff J.D. Archer sent me the below video footage of Ulithi atoll. Can you spot the Alaska?
